Character Creation

This LARP system is based on Role-Playing, not combat. You need not know everything about your character to start, but you should have some idea as to who he/she is, and what his/her goals are. You may only have one active character at a time - you can decide to kill or retire a character and make a new one at any time, but the old character may never be brought back (see "Character Death" for more details).

To create a character, you must first pick a Race, and a Background. If you have no particular preference, use the generic Human Peasant - which gives you 1 language (almost always "Common") and the following free skills: Fire Building or Swimming (you choose now), Stone Masonry or Woodworking (you choose now), and Farming.

Once this is determined, you need to spend your "months". Months are basically experience points that can be used to "buy" abilities. Each starting character starts off with 5 months. If this is not your first character in this system, your character starts with half of your previous character's months - rounded down to the nearest half-month, but at least 4 and at most 10. You may also have an additional month as a racial advantage depending on your chosen race (none for Humans). You may spend these months on Skills, or on Classes - the individual sections on these topics should help you understand how to do this.

From this you will know how many Languages you character can speak, and you should decide now which ones those are. List your character's native language first - as this may prove important to some abilities. Everyone should at least speak "Common", so if you have only 1 language, pick that one.

If your character can read and write in any languages, you need to determine which these are now as well. You can only read and write languages that you already speak.

Your background will determine how much money your character starts with, as well as what equipment he may start with. Decide this equipment (make sure you have the physical props to do so) and figure out how much money your character has left. Usually, weapons cost the character 1sp per level, and armor costs 1sp per point, upon character creation. Wooden weapons cost 5cp (half a silver piece) per level. A dagger (wooden or metal) is free if it's your only weapon, but if you have another weapon, the dagger costs the same as a level 1 weapon. Some backgrounds cut all these costs in half (those that say 5cp per point of Weapons/Armor). A character can begin by being in debt, but all income goes to paying the debt. If the character fails to pay the debt in full by the end of the two event months he/she loses the ability.

Characters may go into debt for creation costs and the debt must be paid in full after two event months. Failure to do so will result to the loss of those abilities that have not been paid for until these costs are paid.

Characters do not have to pay pioneering costs for the new character, but they still have to pay to pioneer orders.

Now all that is left is to name your character - and submit it to the character registry master, currently Greek Nick <bleep@core.binghamton.edu>. Make sure your message includes your full name and your character's full name.
